SHS Fall Registration set for Aug. 3-7

The schedule for Fall Registration at Sisseton High School for the 2020-2021 school year will be as listed.

All students need to register, even if they are going to do on-line distance learning.

These days are reserved for the following grade levels. Please come between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 3 All students registering as 12th grade

Tuesday, Aug. 4 All students registering as 11th grade

Wednesday, Aug. 5 All students registering as 10th grade

School district staff all over the state, and the entire country, are grappling with how to safely open up K-12 schools this fall, in the midst of on-going concerns over a novel coronavirus that doesn’t seem to want to go away.

Alumni Scholarship Winners

SHS Alumni scholarship winners were recently chosen by the Sisseton Alumni Committee. Martina Weyand  received the SHS Alumni Association Scholarship, Sidney Myrum received the Batt/Brinkman/Brauer Memorial Scholarship, and Matthew Moen received the Lads of Sherwood Scholarship

Unique sculpture installed in East Highway 10 roundabout in Sisseton

A unique sculpture has been installed on the east roundabout on Highway 10 in Sisseton. A metal sculpture called “Cloud Horse” was designed by Minnesota artist Alan Milligan and was installed on July 2. The design features a group of low-bearing clouds shaped as a family of horses running fast and wild across the Coteau hills. The structure is built with a stainless-steel framework. The horse heads and other details are crafted from bronze which was annealed by hand and patinated in multiple shades of blue, creating the effect that “Cloud Horse” is made from the sky.

Making Room for New Stadium

Barefoot skier conquers the Dakotas

Some people decide to set a Guinness World Record, and some set less ambitious goals to strive for. Dan Wicks, of New Jersey, decided he wanted to barefoot ski in every state in the U.S. He added South Dakota to his growing list of conquered states back in 2018, but only added North Dakota on June 26, with the help of a South Dakotan: Louie Nigg, of rural Peever.

Read and Win admission passes available

Admission passes are now available for the Read and Win program during the 2020 SD State Fair, Sept 3-7.

While appealing to children of all ages from all over the state, this unique program also encourages summer reading as an incentive to earn free admission to the state fair.

The fair offers multiple ways to showcase youth achievement through livestock shows, art projects and various innovative creations. To honor outstanding academic achievement, the state fair is partnering up with schools and public libraries to promote reading.

American Legion makes outdoor improvement plans

Because of the roundabout construction on 8th Ave. East, the American Legion Post had to move both the Veterans granite memorial and the Blue Star Highway Memorial sign. During planning for the move, the members decided to incorporate the Veterans memorial, the memorial sign and the M60 tank into a small park area.
