NWS reports on weather at half-way point of cold season

Having reached the half-way point of the 2021-22 cold season, the National Weather Service has released a chart comparing the season so far to normal expected precipitation, snowfall and temperature readings from Oct. 1 to Jan. 15. Sisseton is above normal on all three measurements.

Sisseton has had its third wettest season thus far, having received 8.15” of precipitation, which is 4.25” above normal. Sisseton’s wettest season at the half-way point was in 1977-78, with 8.59”.

As for snowfall amounts, Sisseton is 10.4” above normal at this point, having received 28.7” as of Jan. 15. This is the ninth snowiest on record. The 54” received during the first half of the 1996-97 season still holds the record.

Average temperatures in Sisseton have thus far registered 3.2 degrees above normal, with an average temperature of 32.9 degrees.
