Sisseton Area Christian Women to meet Apr. 21

Sisseton Area Christian Women’s Club will meet at Assembly of God Family Life Center, West Highway 10, Sisseton on Wednesday, Apr. 21, at 9:30 a.m. Coffee and a snack will be provided. There is a small cost. The meeting will be in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines.

Names released in Day County Fatal Crash

A Dayton, MN woman has been identified as the person who died Friday morning, Mar. 25, in a two-vehicle crash west of Waubay.

Preliminary crash information indicates a 2007 Lincoln MKZ Sedan was westbound on Highway 12 when it crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2021 Peterbilt 389 semi-truck and trailer.

Cynthia Elledge, 61, was the driver of the Lincoln. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

James Maher, 60, of Timber Lake, SD, was the driver of the semi-truck. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Webster hospital.

SD-DOH confirms detection of additional coronavirus variants

The South Dakota Department of Health (SD-DOH) can confirm that additional variants of the COVID-19 virus have been detected in South Dakota. This includes one case of the B.1.351 (the “South African variant”) and five cases of B.1.429 (the “California variant”). The announcement comes two weeks after the B.1.1.7 variant (the “U.K. variant”) of COVID-19 was initially detected in the state, now at 14 cases.

Interstate 29 northbound construction begins in Roberts County in April

The South Dakota Department of Transportation says crews will begin construction on Interstate 29 northbound lanes from MRM 224 (Peever Exit) to MRM 239 (north of Sisseton) on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Crews will begin laying out traffic control and preparing for two-way traffic to be placed on the southbound lanes of I-29.

Work on the project includes overlaying the existing pavement and improving bridge decks and guardrails on the northbound lanes. This project also includes an asphalt overlay of S.D. Highway 10 at Exit 232.
