Fire Department Responds to House Fire

The Sisseton Fire Department was called to the home of Mark Keoke on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at around 9:00 p.m. for a fire in the bathroom from an exhaust fan. The Keoke house is located south of Sisseton on Whipple Road (Old 81) about 5 miles and west 1 mile. ~ Courier Photo

Measles cases confirmed in northeast South Dakota

The measles outbreak in the United States has reached Northeast South Dakota. Milbank School District recently released information via social media regarding potential measles exposure at Milbank Elementary School.

Highway Patrol announces February Sobriety Checkpoints

The South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 15 counties during the month of February. The checkpoints will take place in Brookings, Charles Mix, Codington, Davison, Jackson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn, Stanley, Walworth and Yankton counties.

Peever plans 125th Celebration

The town of Peever is making plans to celebrate 125 years on Aug. 8, 2026. The community has been meeting every month (except December) since September.

Roberts County January Gathering in Arizona

Jan. 9 was a comparatively cool day in the south east valley of Arizona as friends, family and guests  from northeast South Dakota gathered at the Golden Corral in Gilbert, AZ for brunch. A smaller group of around 19 people showed up, and had a great social and meal. SD Highway 127 scheduled to close for bridge replacement project near Sisseton

Beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, a bridge and box culvert replacement project is scheduled to begin over the Little Minnesota River on SD Highway 127 near Sisseton. This project will replace the existing bridge and box culvert structures.

During the project, Highway 127 will be closed to traffic for approximately three miles from the SD Highway 10/Highway 127 junction to 116th Street in Sisseton.
