Deputy Assaulted During March 18th, 2025 Arrest

On March 18, 2025, a Roberts County Sheriff’s Deputy encountered an individual behind the Sisseton Warming House during a routine patrol. The individual was part of a group consuming alcohol in public and was known to the deputy to have an active arrest warrant and be on parole (for assault on law enforcement).

As the deputy attempted to place the individual under arrest, the suspect became physically aggressive and attempted to disarm the deputy by grabbing a department-issued TASER. The deputy maintained control of the situation and prevented the weapon from being removed.

During the struggle the suspect armed themselves with a sharp wooden branch and began lunging upward in a repeated stabbing motion toward the deputy’s face. The deputy managed the threat while maintaining control of the suspect until additional units arrived. 

The deputy walked away with only minor injuries and thankfully did not require hospitalization and remains on duty.

The Roberts County Sheriff’s Office is aware of rumors circulating in the community suggesting that the deputy involved was seriously injured, air-lifted, and hospitalized. We want to clarify that these claims are FALSE. The deputy sustained only minor injuries to the hand.
