Zebra mussels found in Pickerel Lake: GFP emergency containment rule triggered

On Wednesday, July 29, almost exactly a year after the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission held a teleconference to adopt an emergency amendment adding Lake Sharpe to the list of containment waters, they held another emergency teleconference meeting to address the discovery of zebra mussels in Pickerel Lake.

Zebra mussels are an aquatic invasive species, and were discovered at the west boat ramp on Pickerel Lake on July 10. This is the first documented case of zebra mussels in the Northeast Glacial Lakes region.
