Roberts County biennial audit released

The official, legal notice of the findings of the Roberts County biennial audit, ending Dec. 31, 2018, appeared in last week’s edition of the Courier. The report had one major recommendation for the county’s internal accounting method, and nine recommendations for the way funds and logs are handled at the Sheriff’s Department and the jail. Several of the recommendations have already been implemented in the two intervening years.

None of the “significant errors” suggested any misappropriation of funds, but pointed out misfiling funds under the wrong line item, or not reconciling and/or depositing funds in a timely manner.

Since these two-year audits are always two years behind, it is difficult to know if the problems discussed have been fully implemented. Roberts County commissioners, who have received this report, have stated, as they do after every audit, that they “will take into consideration the findings in the audit to correct all errors in the future.
