The Sisseton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3342 and the Sisseton American Legion Post #50 held a shortened Memorial Day program on Monday, May 25, 2020 at the Sisseton Cemetery Veterans Memorial Square at 10:30 a.m. The service schedule was cut down to the Three Volley Salute (above left), Playing of Taps by Wade Johnson (left), and the Laying of the Wreath Ceremony (above right) by VFW Auxiliary President Tammy Chase and Legion Auxiliary President Judy Myrum. People in attendance were asked to either stay in their vehicles or stand at a minimum of 6 ft apart due to social distancing guidelines. Pictured to the right are (left to right) Chuck Clark, the American Legion Commander, who opened the Tribute to Veterans and Troy Foster, Legion Chaplain, who opened with a prayer. A program was held at the Peever Cemetery earlier in the morning. This year due to COVID-19 social distancing practices the potluck was canceled in Sisseton. Memorial Day marks an important time in American History and is set aside to honor veterans and POW/MIAs. ~ Courier Photos
