April blizzard hits northeast South Dakota; Motorists stranded as snow piles even higher

An early April blizzard hit the northeast corner of South Dakota hard Apr. 4-6, with heavy snow and high winds resulting in no travel adviso- ries and several road closures including I-29. Numerous activities were disrupted during “Holy Week,” the week leading up to Easter Sunday.

The blizzard began Tuesday night, Apr. 4, in the Sisseton area and ended during the early morning hours of Thursday, Apr. 6, leaving in its wake blocked roads, stranded motorists, and continued disruptions to work, church and school schedules.
