Sisseton Area Special Olympians compete in State Spring Games

Special Olympic athletes from Sisseton Area participated in the State Spring Games for Track and Field on Saturday, May 20, at Black Hills State University in Spearfish. The athletes, coaches and chaper- ones attended a dance on Friday night at the BHSU Arena. They had some great times, and the Sisseton Area athletes brought home lots of medals in their respective categories!

Results were as follows:

Hunter Gaikowski - Gold in Standing Long Jump, Gold in Softball Throw, Silver in 50 M Dash.

Daeshawn Barber - Gold in 50 M Dash, Gold in Standing Long Jump, Gold in Softball Throw.

Chase DuMarce - Gold in Softball Throw, Silver in Standing Long Jump, 4th place in 50 M Dash.

Jorell Eastman-Crawford - Gold in 50 M Dash, Silver in Standing Long Jump, Silver in Softball Throw.

Jaelyn Peterson - Bronze in 50 M Dash, Bronze in Tennis Ball Throw, Gold in Standing Long Jump.

Jackson Greseth - Gold in 50 M Dash, Bronze in Standing Long Jump, Gold in Tennis Ball Throw.

Juan Kostboth - Gold in 30 M Wheelchair Slalom, Gold in 100 M Wheelchair

The 4x100 Relay Team (Hunter Gaikowski, Chase DuMarce, Jorell Eastman- Crawford and Daeshawn Barber) brought home the Gold Medal.

Athletes who participated in the Region Meet in Milbank, but did not attend the State Meet include Nevada Seda and Sage Owen-Rodriguez.

The Special Olympics Sisseton Area (SOSA) team was coached this year by Mike Durkin, May Amodia and Karen Siriban. They did a great job preparing the athletes for participation.
