Smokefest Winners--Saturday, July 17 the Sisseton Chamber of Commerce sponsored their 3rd Annual Smokefest in Anderson Park during Horse & Buggy Days. Seven participants competed in two catagories, brisket and ribs. This year’s rib winners are pictured above left with their awards (left to right) Brandon Dexter of Milbank, first place plaque and $100.00; Cole Balin of Milbank, second place metal and $50.00; David Peterson of Sisseton, third place metal and $25.00. ?MOSHIER PAINTING AUCTIONED -- Connie Van Der Vliet (left) holds the painting she bought at auction during the Bring Back the Bands event. The painting of the old Starr’s Gun Shop near Buffalo Lake was donated by artist Harry Moshier (right) to the Class of 1968 and auctioned off on Saturday night, July 3, by Jon Erdahl and Paul Bubak. The $800 purchase price will be used for the Class of ’68 scholarship. This scholarship was set up two years ago when the Lads of Sherwood reunited in concert for their 40th class reunion and is for students going into music.

Wagon Train Masters--Ernie Richards (left) and Irv Slaamot (right) were this year’s Horse & Buggy Days wagon masters. The wagon train started on Thursday evening, July 15 near Buffalo Lake. On Sunday morning the buggies and riders started for Sisseton to ride in the Horse & Buggy Days parade at 1:00 p.m. Riding in this year’s parade were 62 out riders and 6 wagons. ~ Courier Photo
School Board discusses variety of topics at July 12 meeting

The Sisseton School Board met in regular session on Monday, July 12, 2010, to discuss twenty items.
