Entire Sisseton team qualifies for state golf tournament
For the first time ever, the entire Redmen boys golf team advanced to the State A tourney, after taking top honors at the Region 1A golf meet on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids. While individual golfers have qualified in the past, Sisseton has never before qualified as a team for the state tournament.
The Region 1A meet was moved from Monday to Wednesday due to a wet course, but the wait was well worth it for the Sisseton team, who collectively scored a 332, just one stroke ahead of Dell Rapids.
Sisseton’s Ryan Medhaug grabbed medalist honors with a 75, a full five strokes ahead of the second place finisher. Jordan Rolstad came in fourth with an 81; Alex Hill was 16th with an 86; Sidney Williams 18th with a 90, and Chris Arbach 33rd with a 106.
Team scores were as follows: Sisseton 332, Dell Rapids, 333, Aberdeen Roncalli 344, Milbank 350, Madison 357, Sioux Valley 372, Tri-Valley 398, and Groton 443.
The Region 1A Champion Redmen will take a full team of five players and will score four at the state meet in Rapid City on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 4-5, at the Hart Ranch Golf Course.
