Sisseton Lady Redmen Volleyball team beat Tiospa Zina 3-0 on Oct.12th.
Sisseton volleyball team takes second place in Lisbon-Enderlin tourney
The Redmen volleyball team participated in the Lisbon-Enderlin Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Sisseton played in Enderlin for the first five matches. The Redmen split the first match of pool play 1-1 with Ellendale, then came back to beat Hankinson 2-0, before splitting again with Enderlin 1-1.
Sisseton was then put in the top bracket with other top teams from pool play to determine the Enderlin side of the tournament. The Redmen came out as the winners of the Enderlin side of the tournament, defeating Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 2-1 and Oakes 2-0.
The Redmen then traveled to Lisbon to play the winner of the Lisbon side of the tourney. Sisseton lost to Kindred in this championship match in two games, 22-25, 22-25, giving the Redmen a second place finish in the tournament.
Results for the Redmen in the Ellendale match were as follows:

Bernard takes first at Webster, LaFontaine 19th
Tiospa Zina’s Dion Bernard placed first in the ECC cross country meet in Webster on Monday, Oct. 4. Dion ran the 5000 meter course in a time of 17:55 to earn top honors.

Mighty Redmen suffer first loss of the season
The Aberdeen Roncalli Cavaliers came into Sisseton to take on the No. 1 rated Sisseton Redmen on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010. The Cavaliers upset the Redmen 45-42 to bring both teams’ records to 6-1.
The Redmen won the coin toss to get the ball first and moved the ball down the field to the 50 yard line but were forced to punt.
Roncalli took over after a penalty moved them back to the 20 yard line. The Cavaliers picked up four first downs, but a penalty moved them back to force them to punt the ball.
Devin Tohm caught the punt and handed the ball off to Lance Haug, who moved the ball all the way down to the Cavalier 20 yard line. Casey Goodhart had a 13 yard run to take the ball to the three yard line. Branden LaBatte took the ball from Ryan Toelle to score a three yard touchdown, with the point after by Christian Hagen good for a 7-0 lead.
Roncalli took the ball out to the Cavalier 42 yard line and moved the ball down the field. With Roncalli on the Sisseton 49 yard line and fourth down, a fake punt gave the Cavaliers a first down. The Cavaliers picked up a couple first downs and then ran a half back pass from Andrew Holmstrom to Chris Malsam for a 9 yard touchdown. The point after was good.
The kick was taken by Devin Tohm at the 5 yard line and he brought the ball out to the Sisseton 35 yard line. Tohm caught a 15 yard pass from Toelle. Toelle hit Lance Haug for a 50 yard touchdown. The extra point was blocked by Roncalli to make the score 13-7.
Sisseton’s kick was taken at the 5 yard line by Roncalli, who brought the ball out to the 35 yard line. Roncalli ran two plays before the end of the first quarter, with the score 13-7, the Redmen in front.
The Cavaliers came out in the second quarter with a 10 yard pick up for a first down. The Redmen sacked the Cavaliers’ quarterback for a loss, with Tanner Stapleton and Tony Fischer getting to the quarterback. On the next play Roncalli hit a receiver over the middle for a 42 yard touchdown pass with the point after missed, to bring the game to 13-13.
The kick was taken by Devin Tohm down the field to the 50 yard line. The Redmen ran three plays and were forced to punt with Roncalli taking over on their 34 yard line.
The Cavaliers fumbled the ball on their own 45 yard line with Sisseton coming up with the ball.
After a 15 yard penalty on the Cavaliers for a late hit, Toelle hit Tohm for a 26 yard touchdown pass with a two point conversion pass caught by Wade Youngblom for a 21-13 lead.
The Cavaliers took the kick to the 30 yard line. The Cavaliers marched the ball down the field and scored on a one yard run from their quarterback. The Cavaliers went for 2 with the pass caught to tie the game at 21-21.
The Redmen took the kick out the the 30 yard line. Two plays later, Sisseton’s Ryan Toelle’s pass was picked off by a Roncalli defender. Roncalli kicked a field goal with no time on the clock to take a 24-21 lead at half time.
The third quarter was a defensive quarter, with both teams scoring a touchdown Sisseton scored on a 39 yard pass from Toelle to Tohm, with the point after missed. Roncalli scored on an 8 yard run from Holmstrom, with the point after good, to close out the quarter with Roncalli leading 31-27.
The Redmen scored first in the fourth quarter, with Devin Tohm scoring a 26 yard pass from Toelle with point after by Hagen good to make the score 34 to 31.
Roncalli scored on a one yard run from Christian Cox, with the point after by Cox good to bring the score to 38-34 with 3:12 left to play.
Roncalli picked off a Ryan Toelle pass and took the ball into the end zone for a 44 yard return, with the point after by Cox good, to increase their lead to 45-34.
Sisseton moved the ball down the field quickly to score on a 19 yard pass from Toelle to Wade Youngblom, with Toelle running in the two point conversion, to close the gap to 45-42.
The Cavaliers had to punt the ball with Sisseton taking over on their own 25 yard line.
Roncalli closed the game out with an interception of a Ryan Toelle pass to end the game at 45-42.
