The Redmen go to 2-0
The Sisseton Redmen football team traveled to Redfield on Friday, Sept. 5 and came home with a 22-20 victory over the Redfield-Doland Pheasants.
The Redfield Pheasants got the scoring started in the second quarter, scoring on a 12-yard run from Jake Baloun with the 2-point conversion being no good.
Sisseton scored on a 1-yard run from Josh Currence with 5:05 left in the second quarter. The 2-point conversion was good with a pass from Hunter Medenwald to Matthew Nieland.
Redfield scored quick with 3:51 left in the second quarter on a 34-yard pass from Alan Masat to Carter Klapperich with 2-point conversion good on a run from Kyle Stover to make the score 14 to 8 at half-time.
Sisseton regained the lead 16-14 in the third quarter on a Dustin Moshier 40-yard run with the 2-point conversion good on a pass from Hunter Medenwald to Moshier.
Redfield’s Baloun scored again with 8:54 left in the game on a 2-yard run with the point after no good to give Redfield-Doland a 20-16 lead.
Hunter Medenwald scored the winning touchdown with two seconds left in the game on a 1-yard run. The point after was no good to give Sisseton the 22-20 victory.
Medenwald went 2-8 passing for 61 yards and had 47 yards rushing on 9 attempts. Moshier had 114 yards on 12 attempts and caught one pass for 55 yards. Currence had 26 yards on 13 attempts. Dustin Lehrke had 22 yards on 15 carries. Andrew Fitz caught one pass for six yards. John Meland lead the Sisseton defense with five tackles with Moshier and Ethan Kranhold each having an interception.
Baloun lead the way for Redfield-Doland with 48 yards on 11 attempts. Masat went seven of 14 passes for 129 yards and had 12 yards rushing on five attempts. Klapperich caught three passes for 53 yards.
The Redmen will have next week off and will play the Madison Bulldogs for Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 19.
