Redmen advance to championship

The Sisseton Redmen boys basketball team advanced to the championship game of the State A Boys Basketball Tournament by defeating the Tea Area Titans 47-35 in the semi-finals on Friday, Mar. 21, 2014 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Sisseton has not played in the championship game since 1988.
Sisseton fell behind 0-2 early in the first quarter but had a 10-0 run to open up a 10-2 lead. Wyatt Youngblom scored eight of the 10 points, scoring two field goals and four free throws. Brayden Tasa added a lay-up, with Ethan Kranhold hitting a three pointer to build a 15-6 lead by the end of the first.
In the second quarter, Youngblom’s two field goals and Kranhold’s three pointer allowed the Redmen to take a 23-8 lead into half-time.
Tea Area’s only points in the second quarter were two free throws.
Tea cut into the lead in the third period to make it 29-20, but Kranhold made a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Redmen a 31-20 third quarter lead.
In the fourth quarter Sisseton went 11-13 from the free throw line to close out the Tea Area Titans and advance to the championship game.
Youngblom had 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Redmen. Kranhold had 12 points, hitting two 3-pointers and going 4-4 from the line, one rebound, two assists, one block and one steal. Cornelius had 10 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, four blocks and one steal.
Ryan Sabers had 14 points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals to lead the way for the Titans. Tarin Smallfield had six points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal.
