Sisseton brings home runner-up trophy

The Sisseton Redmen boys basketball team took second place in the State A Tournament losing to the Madison Bulldogs in the championship game 48-52.
Madison took a 2-0 lead. Wyatt Youngblom of Sisseton tied the game at 2-2. Madison scored a three pointer to take a 5-2 lead. Jordan Cornelius got a dunk to bring the Redmen to a 4-5 deficit. Madison took a 13-7 lead at the end of the first.
Sisseton had a rough second quarter falling behind 10-25, but fought their way back to trail 15-27 at half-time.
Sisseton made a run in the third period outscoring Madison 18-12 with Ethan Kranhold and Brayden Tasa each making big three point shots. Tasa also got a much needed field goal to bring the score to 25-31 with 4:01 left in the third period. Jordan Cornelius ended the quarter scoring two field goals to bring the quarter to an end with Sisseton only trailing 33-39.
In the fourth quarter Sisseton cut the lead to 40-43 on a made free throw by Cornelius. Kranhold made a three pointer to cut the lead to 46-48 later in the quarter, but the comeback fell just short with Sisseton losing 48-52.
Cornelius lead the Redmen with 22 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Kranhold had nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
Trae VandeBerg had 20 points, four rebounds and one assist to pace the Bulldogs. Preston Nordling had 11 points and three assists; Jacob Giles had eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
Congratulations to the All Tournament Winners, Jordan Cornelius and Wyatt Youngblom. Also, congrats to the Sisseton Cheerleaders for winning the Spirit of Six and to Jordan Cornelius for winning the Spirit of Su award.
